Foster Parenting
There’s a perfect home out there for every abandoned dog and cat, but it does take time to find it. Our local rescue group works hard to find that permanent home. In the meantime, we need foster homes. Won’t you join our devoted core of foster parents who open their hearts and their homes to provide temporary shelter while we keep looking.
Foster parents provide security, love, companionship and the nurturing home environment that these critters need. They help us evaluate a rescued animal’s behavior, temperament and energy level. We learn whether a cat or dog is housebroken, patient with children, aggressive or shy with cats and other dogs. Most animals who come to us are healthy and well-adjusted and transition quickly and easily into a new, permanent family. Some dogs require a little extra care, ranging from post-op rehab to specific food and exercise regimens. Others need time to develop better social skills with people or other dogs. The average length of time a cat or dog is fostered is about three weeks, but fostering can mean anything from an emergency over night stay, to a few days to a few months. Our little rescue group can offer to cover the expense of food and, in some cases, grooming and any necessary medical care during the stay of your temporary pet. What If I Become Too Attached? We understand! But letting go is part of fostering. Although the self-sacrifice may seem difficult to those who have never lived through it, many foster parents who once thought giving up a foster companion animal to a permanent home too painful for them, now tell us the rewards are life-changing.
